Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded in 1929 as a sorority for female educators. Its mission is to promote the personal and professional growth of its members. The Beta Phi Chapter was founded in Arlington, Texas, in 1936. Approximately twenty schools in Arlington and Mansfield, Texas, have been named for members of the Beta Phi chapter. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded as an organization for women educators in Austin, Texas, in 1929. Dr. Webb Blanton was inspired by comments criticizing the ability of women to "stand together" for a common cause; she subsequently accumulated a team of outstanding teachers and laid the foundation for what is now an international organization.
